All Wrapped Up

I wrote this song in the summer of 2010 while interning at NASA-JPL in Pasadena, CA. I had been talking to a long-time friend of mine from Washington state over the phone and remembering our history as friends and found myself wondering “could we be something more?” I then wrote this song about infatuation and how awkward it can be to fall for someone (sometimes literally!) It quickly became one of the favourites played among friends. I had never officially recorded it, so I decided it would be the first song produced with Kyle Novy of My Song Alive in the beginning of our work partnership for MelodyWed™.

Lyrics:
All Wrapped Up
Written and performed by Jessica Lindsay

I’ve got this one little secret
I’ve been holding you in my heart for so long
It’s funny though, cuz I didn’t know you were there
I heard your voice on the phone
Talking like we were just friends
And I found myself wondering
Could we be something more?

And now it’s been so long since I’ve been there
With your perfect shades of blue
Give me a little time, I’m just trying to figure out here
How to act when I’m around you!

Cuz boy you got me all wrapped up
In my head, can’t remember what I said
But I’m hoping it was something you liked
It’s all for you boy
Never would have guessed that I was falling for ya
But I guess surprises are the best
And if all is fair in love and war
Then I’m going to fight till I just cannot fight no more
Cuz boy, you got me all wrapped up

You accidentally touched my hand
We chuckled and kept on walking
But I will bet you that it’s in my soul
And I can pull it out whenever I want it
I caught you looking at me across the table
In my momma’s house, it was so grand
And there is no comparison
Baby, you’re my favorite man

And now it’s been so long since we’ve been here
Do you remember the tune to our song?
I’m feeling a little tongue-tied right now
But if you sing I’ll start singing along

Cuz boy you got me all wrapped up
In my head, can’t remember what I said!
But I’m hoping it was something you liked
It’s all for you boy
Never would have guessed that I was falling for ya
But I guess surprises are the best
And if all is fair in love and war
Then I’m going to fight till I just cannot fight no more!
Cuz boy, you got me all wrapped up!

Forgive me if I stare a little bit long
Or lose my art of speaking,
Become hard of hearing
Please don’t laugh if I forget what my name is
Or fall down a staircase
I guess you got me!

Boy you got me all wrapped up
In my head, can’t remember what I said!
But I’m hoping it was something you liked
It’s all for you boy
Never would have guessed that I was falling for ya

And if all is fair in love and war
Then I’m going to fight till I just cannot fight no more
Cuz boy, you got me all wrapped up

MelodyWriter Commentary:
This song kind of just flowed out of me. I don’t know that I was very intentional with the lyrics at all! I just tried to embody the young fluttering feelings of liking someone and not knowing what to do with yourself. I think the bridge especially captures the imagery, “Forgive me if I stare a little bit long, or I lose my art of speaking, or I become hard of hearing. Please don’t laugh if I forget what my name is, or fall down a staircase, I guess you got me all wrapped up!”
